Youngkin launches policy group focusing on education and school choice

Former Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Wednesday unveiled a new policy organization focused on education policy and school choice, a move that will allow him to raise his national profile and stay in the political arena ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

Empowering America’s Parents will target voters in battleground states who support school choice with a multimillion-dollar campaign to promote a new national school voucher program included in the GOP tax law.

A number of Democratic governors in key swing states have not opted in to the Education Freedom Tax Credit, a major new initiative embraced by school choice advocates that can be used to help fund private schooling. The credit was established within the Republican’s sweeping 2025 tax reform bill and is set to go into effect on January 1, 2027.

“Bottom line, every Governor in America should opt-in to the Education Freedom Tax Credit. If they blow this opportunity, they’ll be leaving kids behind in their state while children in other states get the benefit,” Youngkin said in a statement announcing the organization.

The issue-based organization will give Youngkin a vehicle to travel, talk to voters, and potentially raise money for any future campaign. He has said he would support Vice President JD Vance should he run for president but has not ruled out running for office again in the future.
