Larry David Fought Alan Dershowitz Because Trump Lawyer ‘Made Deal With Devil’

Larry David told The Atlantic that ex-friend Alan Dershowitz “made a deal with the devil” when he became a lawyer on Donald Trump’s defense team during the president’s first impeachment trial in 2020, hence the two gentleman are no longer friends.

Dershowitz and David got into an infamous altercation on Martha’s Vineyard in 2021 that resulted in the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld” creator calling Dershowitz “disgusting” to his face. Dershowitz, who was a member of Trump, Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein’s defense teams at various points in his career, confirmed the fight in a 2022 interview with The New Yorker and opened up again on his falling out with David in a new profile published by The Atlantic on Aug. 18.

“Larry David doesn’t talk to me anymore,” Dershowitz told the publication. “He screams and yells at me when he sees me.”

David responded by telling The Atlantic: “I don’t know why he’s still thinking and talking about me. I have lots of confrontations on my show but rarely in life. And then only if I think I can take them in a fight. Hence the Dershowitz dust-up.”

Dershowitz called out his former friend for not even contacting him when his son, Elon, died from a stroke last year at 64 years old. David admitted he should have reached out even if their friendship is over and added that he’s “starting to feel a little sorry” for Dershowitz in the wake of his loss.

“I certainly regret not [reaching out],” David told The Atlantic. “As I said on ‘Curb’ once, ‘I think of nice things. I just don’t act on them.’”

David concluded of his ex-friend: “I’m loath to say anything mean because he’s been so ostracized. But he only has himself to blame. He made a deal with the devil. Literally. And I’d bet the devil hasn’t said a word to him since the impeachment.”

In his 2022 interview with The New Yorker, Dershowitz responded “yeah, he did” when asked if David “chewed him out” on Martha’s Vineyard.

“What happened is — it’s interesting because I was having lunch with a very radical lawyer who loves me. I mean, he disagrees with me. We argue all the time. … So I was having lunch with him and then a number of other people were there,” Dershowitz recalled of the incident. “Suddenly, Larry David walks in to buy some groceries. I say, ‘Hey. Hi, Larry,’ and he turns away, and he just walks away. I say, ‘Larry, can’t we at least talk?’ He said, ‘No. You’re disgusting.’”

“He called me disgusting, and he said he could never talk to me,” Dershowitz added. “Here’s a guy who used to come to our house to work out in the gym. He would come to our house for dinner two or three times a summer.”
