FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have made Brandon Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.
Aubrey agreed to a four-year extension that makes him the first kicker to earn $7 million per year and includes $20 million guaranteed, agents Todd France and A.J. Stevens of Athletes First told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
A source said Aubrey’s signing bonus is $8.25 million.
Earlier this offseason, the Houston Texans made Ka’imi Fairbairn the highest-paid kicker on average annual salary at $6.5 million. Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker had the largest guarantee at $17.75 million.
Aubrey joins quarterback Dak Prescott, another France client, as the highest paid at his position. In 2024, Prescott signed a four-year extension that paid him $60 million on average.
Last summer, the Cowboys made left guard Tyler Smith the highest-paid interior offensive lineman in history with a deal averaging $24 million per year, but that was topped this year by center Tyler Linderbaum, who joined the Las Vegas Raiders on a deal worth $27 million on average.
The Cowboys have wide receiver George Pickens set to play this season on the $27.3 million franchise tag, but a long-term deal would make him among the highest-paid receivers. CeeDee Lamb is the fourth highest-paid receiver at $34 million on a deal he signed in 2024.
The Cowboys nearly had the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history last year with pass rusher Micah Parsons, but he was traded a week before the 2025 season started to the Green Bay Packers and signed a four-year extension worth $188 million.
Aubrey, who turned 31 in March, joined the Cowboys in 2023 after a two-year run in the USFL with the Birmingham Stallions. He was a first-round pick of Toronto FC in Major League Soccer in 2017 after starring for Notre Dame’s soccer team. He had never kicked competitively until joining the Stallions.
Since joining the Cowboys, he has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons. He has made the most field goals from 60 yards or more in NFL history with six.
The Cowboys opened talks with Aubrey last summer but were unable to close a deal. A source said the Cowboys’ offer was for close to $7 million per year but France’s asking price was around $10 million. Last week, the market for restricted free agents closed without a team signing Aubrey to an offer sheet.
Last season, Aubrey connected on 11 of 17 field goal attempts from 50 yards or more.
For his career, he has made 112 of 127 field goal attempts (88.2%) with a career-long 65-yarder. In 2025, he connected on 36 of 42 tries (85.7%), and the six misses were from 51 yards or longer.
