Six-time Paralympic champion Bethany Firth has won Northern Ireland’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as she claimed bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle S14 at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.
Firth, who won gold in the same event in Birmingham four years ago, finished third in a time of 2:07.63.
After easing through by finishing first in the heat, the 30-year-old, who is competing at her fourth Games was edged out in the final by English duo Georgia Sheffield, who won gold, and Poppy Maskill, who took home silver.
Firth started well in the first 100m but she was then pipped by Maskill, who came in at 2:07.44 and Sheffield, who surged ahead in the last 50m to set a Commonwealth Games record with her time of 2:06.07.
