Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards underwent an MRI on his right knee that revealed inflammation and he will be re-evaluated in 1-2 weeks, the team announced on Tuesday.
Edwards had already been ruled out of Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns with knee soreness.
The Timberwolves star has been an iron man through his six-year NBA career, having only missed a total of nine games in the three seasons prior to this one. He’s averaging a career-high 29.5 points while shooting nearly 50% from the field.
With just 14 games to play, Edwards can’t miss more than half the games remaining to keep his eligibility for end-of-season awards.
His absence comes at an unfortunate time for the Timberwolves, who are just two games back of the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference but also only two games up from the play-in. Minnesota has been struggling lately, losing four of their last five games.
