Source: Patriots to release WR Stefon Diggs after one season

The New England Patriots plan to release wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The move comes one year after they agreed to a three-year, $69 million contract in free agency last March.

Diggs, 32, had 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Patriots to help them reach the Super Bowl.

Diggs, however, also is facing felony strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from an alleged dispute with his personal chef. Diggs has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is next scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing April 1.
