Pennsylvania state trooper fatally shot, authorities say


A Pennsylvania state trooper was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Sunday night, local authorities said. 

“Tonight, Pennsylvania tragically lost one of our finest when State Police Corporal Tim O’Connor was killed in the line of duty,” Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a statement. 

O’Connor was shot during a traffic stop in Chester County, according to ABC News’ Philadelphia station WPVI.

Detectives from the state police and the county were conducting a joint investigation into the shooting, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. 

Shapiro said he was was at Paoli Hospital on Sunday night with O’Connor’s wife, Casey, and his parents.

“My heart breaks for Tim and Casey’s young daughter and their entire family,” Shapiro said in a statement.
