“Multiple” fatalities were reported from a shooting in the Cree First Nation community of Mistissini in northern Quebec, Canada, according to the community’s chief, Michael Petawabano.
The remote town has a population of roughly 4,000 people.
In a statement to social media, Petawabano warned that a lockdown is in place following a “serious shooting incident.” All schools and community buildings are closed and residents are advised to remain in their homes.
“Our hearts are heavy with grief for the lives lost and the families affected by this tragedy,” Petawabano said. “We ask all community members to remain calm, stay indoors, and cooperate fully with police as they conduct their investigation.”
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
