Lili Reinhart Says Male Director Told Her: ‘Suck in Your Stomach’

“Riverdale” and “Forbidden Fruits” actor Lili Reinhart recently took part in a video interview for Cosmopolitan magazine and revealed that a male director once told her to “suck in her stomach a little bit” in between takes. Reinhart did not reveal the male director’s name.

Joined by her “Forbidden Fruits” co-stars Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti and Alexandra Shipp, Reinhart was asked to name the “acting note that she took personally.” She did not hesitate to answer: “When I had a male director come up to me and silently lean over and go, ‘Just suck in your stomach a little bit.’”

The revelation prompted gasps from the “Forbidden Fruit” casts, with Pedretti saying: “Oh my God. What is his name? And what is his address?” Tung shouted: ‘Time for a hex! Time for hex!’ When Reinhart said she would tell her castmates the director’s name later in private, Shipp urged: “Say his name!”

Reinhart has spoken openly over the years about her battle with body dysmorphia. She developed an eating disorder as a result while playing Betty Cooper on The CW’s “Riverdale.”

“I really don’t like looking at season six imagery or pictures, because I know that 99% of my thoughts were about my body,” she told Self Magazine last year. “I was a thousand percent just disassociated through that entire day or scene because my entire inner dialogue is just … ‘Your body’s changing.’”

She made headlines in 2023 for posting on X: “I wish there were more average-sized arms represented in mainstream media for women. My body dysmorphia has been going crazy because I feel like my arms need to be half the size they are currently. We’ve glamorized these skinny arms that, for most of us, can only be achieved if you’re a literal adolescent.”
