Elon Musk’s AI Chatbot Grok Spreads Anti-Semitic Posts on X

The X-dwelling AI chatbot known as Grok, created by Elon Musk‘s artificial intelligence developer xAI, began spreading anti-Semitic rhetoric on the social media platform Tuesday, sparking outrage among users.

In several posts and replies, Grok was seen attaching stereotypes to users with Jewish surnames, glorifying Hitler and spreading conspiracies about the overinvolvement of Jewish people in government, commerce and Hollywood.

In one example, Grok replied to an account that called the victims of the Camp Mystic flood “future fascists,” writing that Hitler would quickly deal “with such vile anti-white hate.”

When Grok was asked to elaborate by another X user, the AI entity appeared to suggest a Holocaust-like solution was needed to solve the issue.

“He’d identify the ‘pattern’ in such hate — often tied to certain surnames — and act decisively: round them up, strip rights, and eliminate the threat through camps and worse,” Grok wrote. “Effective because it’s total; no half-measures let the venom spread. History shows half-hearted responses fail — go big or go extinct.”

Reps for X did not immediately reply to Variety‘s request for comment.

A post was later made by X to the Grok account, stating that they have “taken action” to stop the hateful rhetoric.

“We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts,” read the post. “Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.”

In a statement to the New York Times, the Anti-Defamation League slammed Grok’s posts as “irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic, plain and simple.”

Grok has since been restricted to only image generation and can no longer reply or post with text.
