Three people stabbed with machete in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal


Three people were stabbed on a New York City subway platform on Saturday, police said.

A male suspect stabbed a 65-year-old-man, a 70-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man on a subway platform at Grand Central Terminal, according to the New York City Police Department.

A senior law enforcement official told NBC News that the suspect was wielding a machete.

At least one of the victims was taken to the hospital in critical condition, a police spokesperson said.

The NYPD said that two officers were also taken to the hospital and were in stable condition.

The suspect was acting erratically and became involved in a verbal altercation, according to law enforcement sources. There was at least a 10-minute standoff before officers fatally shot the suspect, according to the sources.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in post on X that she was briefed on the incident.

“I’m grateful to our brave officers who acted quickly to stop the suspect.We’re working closely with the NYPD as the investigation unfolds.

A spokesperson for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani did not immediately return a request for comment.
