Women’s Super League: Manchester United close to deal for Rebeca Bernal

Manchester United are close to signing Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from Washington Spirit.

The 29-year-old, who can play in the centre of either defence or midfield, would become the first Mexican to feature in the Women’s Super League.

Bernal joined the Spirit in February 2025 from CF Monterrey and has played 41 times for them.

During her time in Washington, she won the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2025.

Bernal missed Spirit’s NWSL game on Sunday against Bay FC with what the club described as an “excused absence”.

She has also made 65 appearances for Mexico, scoring seven goals, including the winner in the 2023 Pan American Games women’s football final as they beat Chile to claim the title for the first time.

United, who will start their WSL campaign under new manager Eva Olid at London City Lionesses on Friday, have signed defender Andrea Medina from Atletico Madrid, goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City and Sweden winger Monica Jusu Bah from BK Hacken.
